Designing and implementing core democratic values using PBL is made almost instant with the use of a workshop called PROJECT CITIZEN. This workshop results in the construction of modified policy [final product = Poster and Portfolio] regarding inefficient laws that direct anything within the gov't ranging from the level of Federal to that of local. Check your social studies pro. dev. for availability. Several national locations exist for those who wish to partake. I would recommend the summer institutes because they're fantastic!!

I agree. I participated in the Project Citizen one summer (as a summer school pilot program) in Miami and I highly enjoyed it. As a matter of fact, the City of Neighborhoods program reminded me a lot of Project Citizen. However, what I had an issue with was the actual study of policy and law which is very difficult for students to read and UNDERSTAND. Sometimes, I needed some help with the interpretation. Otherwise, Project Citizen has been very well received here in Miami schools. I know that we have had state and national finalists as well.
