This article is about the accumulation of plastics in the environment especially the oceans. On page 6 is a redeeming idea about designing... cradle to cradle manufacturing standards.

How sad, but so relevant. This is a great article for the students to read for current events. Coming up with an idea for clean up and reuse would be great here. Thanks for sharing this important information. Babs

I've also received e-mail on this subject but pertaining to plastic water bottles. They are proliferating at such an exponential rate that they are clogging sewer lines in many cities not to mention the newly-discovered estogen effect they are having on males in our society. A great idea may be to have students look into designing alternative containers for portability and disposability. The soda/juice/water craze isn't going to go away any time soon, so figuring out another way to bottle the stuff seems timely and practical.
